🐍Snake

The timeless arcade classic: eat, grow, and don't bite your own tail.

About this game

Snake is one of the most recognizable video games ever made, famous long before smartphones existed. You steer a constantly moving snake around a walled arena, eating food to grow longer. Every apple makes you one segment longer and a little faster — and the longer you get, the harder it becomes to avoid crashing into the walls or your own body.

This version keeps the pure classic feel: crisp grid movement, gradually increasing speed, and a saved best score. On a computer you steer with the arrow keys; on a phone you can swipe anywhere on the board or use the on-screen directional pad. One run takes a minute — 'just one more run' takes an evening.

How to play

  1. Press an arrow key (or swipe) to start moving.
  2. Eat the 🍎 to grow one segment and earn 10 points.
  3. Don't hit the walls and don't run into your own body.
  4. Speed increases slightly every 50 points — stay calm on the turns.

Tips & strategy

  • Travel along the edges in long lines instead of zig-zagging through the middle.
  • Leave yourself an exit: never enter a pocket your tail hasn't left yet.
  • When you get long, sweep the board in an S-pattern like mowing a lawn.
  • Queue your next turn early — inputs are buffered one move at a time.

Frequently asked questions

How is the score counted?

Each food item is worth 10 points. Your best score is saved locally in your browser.

Why did I die when I turned back?

A snake can't reverse into itself — a 180° turn would be instant death, so backward input is ignored; if you crashed, it was a wall or your body.

Can I pause?

The game only advances once you've started moving; before your first input it waits. If you need a break, finish the run — a round only takes a minute or two.
